ABSTRACT

New York City has a private sector unionization rate of only 14.6% (Labor Research Association, “Unions Have Resources”); however, the Broadway Theatre is a ‘union’ industry. Virtually every one of the 75,000 Broadway employees belongs to a union, even workers with supervisory duties belong to unions, and if Broadway workers are not in an ‘offi cial’ union, then they are part of a guild or another type of collective centered on their mutual interests.
