ABSTRACT

In all my work on myself as an actor and a human body and in my work with actors I have been puzzling over ways of finding a true, natural poise which would enable the actor to do his best work at all times, in class, rehearsal and performance. Many practitioners have found answers which help a bit but may not be completely useful because the physical problem at the centre of the puzzle has not been made clear. My son, Dominic Barter, an actor, director and teacher, has been exploring this area and has allowed me to use his work, which is still in progress, as a part of this book.
