ABSTRACT
Entertainment is a worldwide phenomenon. Much of what we know about other people comes to us in some form of entertainment. We are exposed to people of other ethnicities and cultures through movies, television, and newspapers. What we understand about others is often a result of mediated communication, which may be from the point of view of the writer, producer, or director. The line between truth and fiction may be breached, causing false impressions for audiences. In this chapter, we look at portrayals of ethnic groups and global cultures as created by various forms of mediated entertainment.
