Classification Rules

Most of the classification procedures fall into one of the four types-partitioning methods, hierarchical methods, geometrical methods, and clumping methods.

Partitioning methods aim to partition the set of n objects into a specified number of disjoint groups so that each object belongs to one and only one group. Latent classes modeling is one of these procedures. The value of a g partition has to be specified by researchers, and analyses are usually undertaken for several different values, and for each value of g, a partition must be optimal with respect to a given clustering criterion (Bartholomew, 1987).
