ABSTRACT

Natural materials such as river sand and crushed fine stone are generally used in concrete as fine aggregates. However, with the booming in urban infrastructure development and the increasing demand on protecting the natural environment, especially in build-up areas such as Hong Kong and some southern Chinese cities in the Pearl River Delta, the availability of the natural resources is diminishing rapidly. Other sources of fine aggregates are urgently needed.
