ABSTRACT

It is likely that you have already learned about the components and elements within a comprehensive, developmental school counseling (CDSC) program from courses you have taken in your school counseling curriculum. Of the four elements outlined in the ASCA National Model, the Foundation component serves as the structure from which the Management and Delivery System components build, and it is integral to the Accountability component. And now, as you embark on your school counseling practicum and internship experiences, you should begin to see aspects of the ASCA National Model at work within your placement school. As you are performing myriad school counselor tasks at your school site, it is essential that you take the time to reect on your beliefs surrounding school counseling, and on the professional you are becoming, to build on your understanding of the school counselor as a vital force within the school.
