ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the psychology of choice as it relates to social class and
racial/ethnic identity among multiracial Americans. The fi rst half of this chapter
addresses the question “Did class privilege of a few help to create choices for the
many?” In the second half, I make the case for a connection between identity
development in a U.S. context, the psychology of choice, and social class.
