ABSTRACT

The writings of Rev Malthus gave to economics the name ‘the dismal science’ and I do not wish to emulate him, but Zambia’s economy is not in good shape, so much so that, were it not for the consoling perquisites of office, Mr.. Kaunda’s Presidential successors might well despair and say truthfully the Churchillian phrase: ‘I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat’.
