ABSTRACT

IN PREVIOUS CHAPTERS, the authors outlined some practicalways that trauma practice may be integrated into primary care. In this chapter I explore two additional areas that are rarely, if ever, integrated into treatment plans for trauma survivors. These are a patient’s self-efficacy and the quality of their sleep. I selected these two areas to focus on because of the strong relation each has to health, and trauma negatively affects both. Often, these two issues are not even assessed, let alone addressed. Yet research suggests that addressing them is likely to make a substantial difference in improving the health of trauma survivors. The first area I describe is self-efficacy.
