ABSTRACT

This study has investigated the global strategies and value chain structures of three multinational firms, Boeing, Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola, as well as their activities in China. The three firms have all participated in profound transformations in industry structure and business relationships at various levels of their value chains. They have also had an enormous impact on the local industries in which they have participated. This chapter outlines the general observations relevant to firm-level catch-up at both the global and local levels from the three case studies.
