In the past three decades, Hong Kong has experienced a unique social and political transition, transforming from a British colony to a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Th e process was marked by major developments including the partial democratization of the political system, the rise of local political parties, changes in the participatory culture of the public, and the increasing infl uence of China on local matters.
