ABSTRACT

Despite the perception that interracial romance is relatively new, interracial sexual relationships have historically been common in the United States. Early male European explorers engaged in sexual activities with indigenous females in South and Central America. Such mixing led to the racial group that is today called Hispanic Americans. Th e majority of African Americans today have at least some European heritage, which indicates the degree of White-Black sexual intermixing that has occurred. Wars in Asia oft en facilitated Asian-White sexual liaisons between the White soldiers sent overseas and indigenous women. Interracial relationships have been prominent in our society, although interracial marriages have not.
