ABSTRACT
This chapter investigates the rise of the television serial in Putin’s Russia. It considers the role of television programming and the peculiarities of the serial form before exploring, through case studies, how the serial confers stability by proposing an apparent continuity of life, thus allowing the viewer to come to grips with reality – past and present, criminal and social.
