ABSTRACT

Many religious organizations and indigenous peoples disagree with the values that world culture theorists believe are part of a growing global uniformity. Consequently, as I will discuss in this chapter, some religious and indigenous groups are major dissenters to the world culture model and the materialism embodied in the human capital and progressive education models. Religious and indigenous groups often resist and change global models when they are used in local level communities. In addition, some argue that religious and cultural differences are resulting in a “clash of civilizations” rather than growing global uniformity.
