ABSTRACT

The organizations discussed in this chapter support different types of world education cultures. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) provides global education data and international assessments comparing nations. The United Nations is interlinked, as described in chapter 2, through common global networks with the OECD and the World Bank. However, it offers a counterpoint to human capital education through its Cyberschoolbus Web site, which emphasizes problems related to human rights, peace, poverty, and global hunger. In addition, the United Nations’ Cyberschoolbus is linked to the Sesame Street Workshop through the co-production of an online civic education learning site called Explore Panwapa.1 The Sesame Street Workshop also markets international children’s educational television programs.2
