The importance of acting “ethically” is now widely recognized as an essential element of conducting research in any context or environment. It is an injunction contained in the many books on research methods, across the sciences, the arts, and the humanities. Very few of these books exclude at least some consideration of ethics as an area of concern. Indeed, there is a plethora of titles purely devoted to the ethics of research, often focusing on the particular concerns of different disciplines.
