ABSTRACT
The aim of this work is to provide a constrained system from which the basic properties of the syntax of Romance pronominal clitics derive, with relatively few specic assumptions. It will be proposed that this aim is attainable by careful consideration of the interplay between the following factors: the internal structure attributed to clitic pronouns, the assumed clause structure, the general principles concerning movement, and morphological checking with the implied derivations.
