The Nature of Vibrations and Sound
This chapter is provided for you to learn (or review) the nature of vibrations and sound. This knowledge, when combined with that of the previous 12 chapters on electronics, will help you to understand the interaction of electronics with sound-the subject of the next chapter-and the objectives and technical limitations of the electronic aids and instruments you will apply as a practicing audiologist. These are addressed in Chapters 15 and 16. Almost always, the sound that you hear is propagated to your ears through air, so you should begin by studying some basic properties of air.
