ABSTRACT

The current research adopted a case study approach of observing what happened in the home setting as young children interacted with computers and parents offered guidance. There were six families in the study which is a limited group for offering generalizations. Nonetheless, the lessons learned from this research study of parents interacting with their children at home computers offer implications for computer use in home and school settings. Adult strategies that can be learned from the current study are for teachers to be in close proximity to children working at computers, for an adult to engage in discourse with a child using a computer, and for an educator to consistently provide assistance when a student requests computer help.
