ABSTRACT

After 2 years of study as an MBA student I still did not have the answers. I was especially disappointed that the study on the role of the Station Officer did not reveal any insights on exceptional performance. The MBA did, however, bring with it some unanticipated benefits. The discovery of computers and the power to bring together knowledge, especially mathematics and statistics from the whole world and apply them to your unique problem opened up a whole new set of possibilities. Here was one new avenue to high performance. I began to appreciate what would later come to pass, through the Internet, that all knowledge, not just mathematics, could be funneled through that computer terminal. Everybody could become a Wizard of Oz by tapping the keys of the computer. My association with Jim Thompson did not give me direct answers on how to create conditions for exceptional performance but he at least provided the doorway to a new level of understanding of power.
