ABSTRACT
One of the areas in the study of democratization is the relationship between Christianity and democracy. In sociological literature, researchers have argued that the Christian churches are a constructive force facilitating democratization. Many of these researchers have focused on the Protestant churches in the USA. In the early 1980s, researchers studied how the Christian churches helped the development of the civil rights movement,1 and more recent studies have examined how the Christian churches, as faith-based organizations, provide resources for organizing social movements and developing democratization.2
