The alliance in retrospect
This chapter reassesses the empirical and conceptual issues raised throughout the book. The study investigated the interaction between the infrastructural power of the state and the structural power of capital during the industrialisation of Korea. The structural power of capital has been a key element of the developmental alliance, which shaped the formulation and implementation of policies that were conducive both to capitalist development and to the growth of the chaebols. This chapter draws on the findings of the historical narrative presented in the study in order to identify the specific patterns of power relations in the developmental alliance. It also highlights the dynamic nature of those relations.
