ABSTRACT

Klinefelter’s Syndrome, and the XYY Syndrome. 8 Introduces biological and prenatal theories of gender identity and

sexual orientation.

Fertility and infertility, conception, and the sexual differentiation of the embryo are themajor topics covered in this chapter. As part of the discussion of sexual differentiation, three of the more common, random chromosomal errors are discussed. Some of the current biomedical theories that explain the causes of sexual orientation, transgender identity (TGs), and gender identity are based on data collected from intersexed and transgendered people, including transgendered women and men. Since these theories include embryologic arguments, they are introduced in this chapter as well. More complete coverage of transgender identity and community and of sexual orientations will be covered in Chapters 13 and 14.
