ABSTRACT

It betrays my country roots, how awed I am by this sight, a city steaming and gleaming in the rain. Chance or my host’s careful choice, I don’t know, but this Northern Kentucky hotel room must be the best in the house. It’s set high within tonight’s storm, overlooking the Ohio River and facing Cincinnati’s riverfront, a complexity of bridges, interstates, and glowing office buildings. The scene’s dramatic, the view’s a privilege. I almost feel as if I’ve arrived, as if this is some fancy hotel room reserved for rock stars or visiting royalty.
