ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 of this book focuses on technical protection measures and anticircumvention law issues. History testifies to the fact that law and technology interact with each other and are mutually influential. This is particularly true for copyright law anti-circumvention rules in the current digital environment. As outlined in previous chapters, with the dramatic development of Information Communication Technology (ICT), the Internet has become a major vehicle for the dissemination of intellectual property. Advances in digital technology have greatly reduced the cost of making multiple copies and so facilitated the dissemination of online materials. Such advancement brings great convenience, but also enables widespread piracy,1 thus creating major challenges for traditional copyright regimes.
