ACTIVITY 16 Introducing number lines for subtraction: numbers up to ten

There are at least two ways of showing subtractions on number lines: one is to start with the largest number, and physically take away the smaller value (counting down); the other is to focus on the difference between the two numbers. Many children find looking for differences easier to understand and to handle, because it uses addition from the smaller to the larger number.
