ABSTRACT

Children who can’t confidently use their times tables may find that the only strategy they can use is to add on the number each time – so, for example, they construct the six times table by starting with 6, then add on 6 to make 12 and so on. This activity encourages children to look at a range of ways of building the tables, so that although they may not be able to immediately recall them, they can at least get there by using doubling and halving and adding on.
