ABSTRACT

Treating the resistant or defended sexually addicted client can be challenging. The most skilled clinicians may know that the client is in a state of denial, and yet the relentless challenge of confronting his or her resistant tactics can leave even the clinicians doubting their own reality or, worse, finding themselves colluding with the client's reality. The intention of this chapter is to provide a framework for working with the defended sexually addicted client and to give specific interventions that can facilitate the healing process.
