ABSTRACT

Sexual addiction in women has received little clinical attention. Few women identify themselves as being in recovery from this disease. Females, however, comprise a significant population of sexual addicts. Due to Internet involvement, their numbers are predicted to increase. Practitioners in the field can expect to encounter more females in need of sexual recovery. This chapter explores sex addiction in women, including how its presentation differs from typical male addiction. Women's unique treatment issues are discussed, with an emphasis on the particular challenges of a male-dominated recovery environment. Specific recommendations are provided to aid clinicians who work with this special population.
