—Ethics, Professionalism, and Legal Issues

Ethics can be described as a set of moral principles or values that define good and bad in a given situation. As a teacher you are in a role of authority and your ethics will influence the behaviors, teaching and learning patterns, and everyday practices in your classroom. The entire schooling process is based upon the ethical norms that society at large has created and these norms may or may not always be in alignment with your personal belief systems. An experienced teacher has the ability to understand their personal ethics and the ways in which these beliefs affect their teaching and they are able to understand the societal and school ethics that govern how we interact with students, the curriculum, and school policies.
