ABSTRACT

It is sometimes said that we are nearly all ‘constructivists’ of one form or another, today, in post-modern times. Yet clearly the physical, sociological, institutional and organizational surroundings, even though mediated and filtered by language, will also affect what we see and hold sacred or valuable in the world. In societies where ‘money makes the world go round’ young children will be brought up differently from those where ‘the spirits of their forefathers’ speak to them through the trees and rivers and mountains.
