ABSTRACT

Even though the four-flow framework is not entirely isomorphic with each orientation, it serves as a springboard to compare and contrast different approaches to CCO. This chapter synthesizes these orientations through examining how they employ the four flows, describing how they identify and explicate important features of CCO, and noting distinctions in how they conceptualize communication in CCO. Finally, the chapter concludes with some underlying themes that all the approaches share, ones that provide directions for future theory development. Our goal in this chapter is to acknowledge the affinities between orientations while striving to preserve their differences.
