ABSTRACT
Just as our understandings of the past shape our understandings of the present, constructions of the nation’s history, its origins, and its trials and triumphs shape current imaginings of the nation. While the nation’s history is constructed in everything from school textbooks to historical novels, parades and folk ballads, it is arguably museums and living history venues that provide some of the most authoritative and seemingly authentic visions of history.
