ABSTRACT

Career management today finds itself at a crossroad of two perspectives, that of individuals and that of organizations. For individuals, career management consists of managing one’s own career in order to fulfil personal aspirations. For organizations, career management contributes to the accomplishment of human resources objectives. Inkson and Arthur (2001) underline that career management from the traditional perspective of the organization requires creating consistency between individual and organizational objectives. Expatriation may be important to career management from both the individual and organizational perspective. From the individual perspective, it may be an important part of their career development and from the organizational perspective, it may be necessary to the organization’s international development.
