ABSTRACT
Planning teaching and learning is a fundamental aspect of the role of academic staff. The activities involved are not carried out in a vacuum, but rather in accordance with the nature of the institution. Academic staff might reasonably be expected to have an understanding of the culture of the institution in which they operate: the mission and vision of the organisation; the aspirations, the ethos and values. The culture and the ethos of the institution inevitably influence the curriculum.
