ABSTRACT

In this chapter, connections are made between globalization, oppression(s), migration(s) as processes, and migrants as people(s). The multiplicity of meanings of diaspora, both African and non-African and how these diasporas differ (from one another) and what they share will be explored. Further explorations will examine how the “two groups,” (i.e., Africans and nonAfricans) are historically related within diaspora experiences while refusing to relativise the African-prominent position in this and the multiplicity of specifically African oppressions and realities. To do this, my approach merges historical and psychological dimensions, taking into account and tracing mechanisms of control and colonialism.
