ABSTRACT

The six previous chapters have described a growing aviation industry within the context of a world genuinely committed to tackling climate change. The potential implications of a rapidly growing aviation industry for other sectors of the economy and society have been alluded to on several occasions. Within this chapter, a more integrated perspective of the UK’s energy system is presented to illustrate mitigation opportunities in other sectors, and highlight why the aviation sector, in particular, has warranted so much interest since climate change rose up the political agenda.
