ABSTRACT

In Chapters 4 and 5, we presented our cognitive-behavioral treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). In the current chapter, we will review the data on the treatment’s efcacy. We will begin with a discussion of the advantages and limitations of different criteria for establishing a treatment’s efcacy. We will then review the main ndings from four studies that have tested the treatment using a randomized controlled design, where clients are randomly assigned to one of two or more experimental conditions.
