Models of child development
In this chapter we will explore some important models of child development. Of course, there are a great many elements to child development. These include the many physical, cognitive, emotional and social aspects both of the child's individual makeup and the world around them. The various in¯uences on development can also be both `positive' and `negative'. It can be useful to think of child development as taking place within a `context' that is always in¯uenced by `biology', `psychology' and by the `social' aspects of the child's world. This is sometimes referred to as a `bio/psycho/social' approach and is a way of highlighting the impact of the many possible interactions between these major in¯uences on the individual over the course of their lives.
