ABSTRACT

The average American home has more television sets than human inhabitants. According to Nielson Media Research, there are more than 2.73 television sets and only 2.55 humans in the average U.S. household (USA Today, 2006). These TV sets are also increasingly larger, with Sharp predicting the average television screen size being 60-inches by 2015 in the United States. This is supported by sales data on large screen TV setssales of 46-inch and larger TVs have increased 272% in 2007, and sales of 40-42-inch TVs have increased by 128% in the same time period.
