ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the wide range of interventions aimed at countering extreme drinking among adolescents and young adults. Many such approaches target the individual by attempting to raise awareness and modify percep-tions of accepted norms or expectancies related to alcohol, and aim to change behavior by teaching skills for responsible decision-making about drinking and certain other activities, such as driving. Others focus on the physical and legal environments that surround alcohol consumption, for instance venues in which young people can have access to alcohol.
