Family Issues in Counseling Older Adults

Family members (especially women) are the sources of day-to-day care for the most frail (see Dwyer & Coward, 1992, cited in Bedford & Blieszner, 2000) and dependent older adults (see Brody, 1985, cited in Richardson, Gilleard, Lieberman, & Peeler, 1994). For this reason, we will explore the dynamics of families with older adults and then discuss caregiving and bereavement issues.
