ABSTRACT

Practica and school-based experiences are important components of any school psychology training program. Although there are many ways to provide applied clinical experiences, one way is to establish university-based clinics where graduate students can practice clinical skills while being closely supervised by a faculty member. The university-based clinic can provide a myriad of additional benefits to the community. For example, universities can offer free or low-cost clinic services to community members who are in need of psychological evaluations and/or interventions at a reduced rate. Also, individuals who do not have health insurance will be able to take advantage of these clinics. Furthermore, university clinics can provide school-aged children services for issues that cannot be addressed during the school day or when parents prefer assistance that is independent from the school system. University clinic referrals are welcome from the parent, child, local school system personnel (e.g., school psychologist, counselor, or child’s teacher), community agencies, or physician.
