ABSTRACT

A considerable amount of research has been spent on determining the Antiochene method of exegesis, as well as Theodore’s. As the previous chapter has indicated, scholars have helped to bring out to a fuller extent how Theodore’s method of interpretation has been influenced by his rhetorical education, his philosophical and cultural outlook, his loyalty to a faith and scriptural tradition, and his own personality. Rather than simply repeating what Albert Viciano (1996) has already so well provided, I want to limit my comments here to what Theodore himself has affirmed, in his own words, about his usual method, and then examine specific passages that highlight how Theodore has applied this faithfully.
