ABSTRACT

The Kinesthetic/Sensory level might be considered an exploratory level along the range of experiences represented by the Expressive Therapies Continuum. As was discussed in Chapter 3, one goal of the Kinesthetic component is to release energy through the use of physical actions and movement, often through exploration with art media. The Sensory dimension of this level focuses on both the internal and external sensations that are experienced through interaction with various media (Lusebrink, 1990). In its purest form, the Sensory component of the Expressive Therapies Continuum refers to information processing that involves only sensation without cognitive overlay.
