ABSTRACT
Amartya Sen is a complex thinker whose remarkable work has touched upon many areas of social scientifi c research, spanning the distances between welfare economics, collective choice, decision science, moral philosophy, inequality analysis, political theory, and development economics. A native of Santiniketan, India, he studied at Presidency College, Calcutta, before attending Trinity College, Cambridge, in the United Kingdom for his advanced studies. A professor at the London School of Economics, Delhi University, Oxford University, and Harvard University, he won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1998.
