ABSTRACT

Desperation is not a good starting place for any relationship. But desperation is often what drives clients to my door. The decision to seek therapy for secret sexual behaviors is more likely the result of an ultimatum than a self-motivated choice. Often, a spouse, partner, or employer discovers a sexual secret and “blows the whistle,” threatening grim consequences if the person doesn’t get help. The Šrst meeting with a client marks the beginning of a relationship between two not-so-perfect strangers. What a leap of faith for both of us to begin a journey together not knowing where it will end!
