ABSTRACT

Diversity of ideas and the academic freedom to express those ideas have been hallmarks of higher education in the United States. Today our institutions and the educational experiences they provide are made richer by the diversity of students entering their doors. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the changing faces of postsecondary education in the United States (Crissman Ishler, 2005) and to consider how educators and educational policies and practices must change as well in order to ensure the success of an increasingly diverse population of students.
