ABSTRACT
When you fi rst thought of becoming a teacher you may have looked at the requirements for admission to the teacher education program and found that you needed a number of “professional education” courses such as Educational Psychology, Introduction to Education (Foundations) and Field Experiences. Also, you may have seen references to “the teaching profession” in your teacher education brochure or other materials from your school. But what is a professional and is teaching as a profession?
