ABSTRACT

To support students with dyslexia and autism spectrum disorder in regular education schools in Singapore, Special Needs Officers (SNOs) have been introduced in primary and secondary schools. This chapter examines the SNOs’ perspectives on including students with special needs in general education classes, and thereby considers the feasibility of successful inclusion in Singapore. Issues addressed include the SNOs’ expectations of the training program, how mainstream schools and different levels of the society can provide support for them, and their concerns, hopes and needs for having students with disabilities in the general education setting.
